The 2018 Ryder Cup will be played in France, the European Tour announced today. It will be just the second Ryder Cup played in continental Europe.
The first was the 1997 Ryder Cup at Valderrama in Spain, when Spanish legend Seve Ballesteros was European captain. Spain was one of the five countries bidding to host in 2018 - the other three were Portugal, Germany and the Netherlands - and some thought Spain would get it in the aftermath of Ballesteros' death.
But the 2018 Ryder Cup will be played Le Golf National in Versailles, which usually serves as the site of the European Tour's French Open.
Honoring Ballesteros is something the Euro Tour wants to do, however. Almost immediately after Ballesteros' death was announced on May 7 some of the biggest names in European golf took to Twitter to urge changing the tour's logo to feature a silhouette of Seve. The tour said on Tuesday is it considering doing just that.
