The 2010 Ryder Cup isn't the first meeting at the matches for Colin Montgomerie and Corey Pavin, captains of teams Europe and USA, respectively. They faced each other three times as players in previous Ryder Cups, all three times in team matches:

1991 Ryder Cup
Day 2 Fourballs: Bernhard Langer/Colin Montgomerie, Europe, def. Corey Pavin/Steve Pate, U.S., 2 and 1

1993 Ryder Cup
Day 2 Foursomes: Nick Faldo/Colin Montgomerie, Europe, def. Lanny Wadkins/Corey Pavin, U.S., 3 and 2

1995 Ryder Cup
Day 1 Foursomes: Corey Pavin/Tom Lehman, U.S., def. Nick Faldo/Colin Montgomerie, Europe, 1-up

Monty holds a 2-1 advantage over Pavin, so Pavin needs a USA win this week to even the score.

Both men had good career records as Ryder Cup players. Pavin's player record is 8-5-0, with a 2-1 mark in singles.

Monty, meanwhile, is one of the best Ryder Cup players ever with a 20-9-7 mark. That includes an unbeaten record in singles, 6-0-2, which gives Mongomerie a share of the all-time record for most singles wins.
