But he won't be earning any points at The Barclays, because he was disqualified this morning. The reason: He missed his tee time in the pro-am.
The same thing happened last week on the Champions Tour, when Paul Azinger was disqualified from The Traditions after failing to make his pro-am tee time. At the LPGA's first major this year, the Kraft Nabisco Championship, Shanshan Feng, Maria Hjorth and past champion Helen Alfredsson were all DQ'd for missing their pro-am tee times.
The professional tour organizations take their pro-ams very seriously. The tours and tournaments make a lot of money off them, and raise money for charity from them. The people who play in them pay a lot of money for the chance to tee it up with touring pros.
And most touring pros hate the pro-ams. Which is why the penalty for failing to show up for the pro-am is so harsh. Without such a harsh penalty, pros would be coming up with all kinds of reasons not to play the pro-am. Sorry, but I have the heebie-jeebies. Sorry, I need a haircut. Sorry, I'm watching my favorite episode of The Andy Griffith Show.
Furyk's reason? He overslept. His cell phone - which Furyk says he uses as an alarm clock - ran out of power during the night and didn't wake him. Which is completely understandable, and I doubt anyone would question Furyk's intentions. But he still failed to show up for his required assignment this morning, and the penalty for that is disqualification.

What ever happened to a wake up call from the front desk?
how late was he?He knew the rules, and I don’think they should change them, but if they do then, we will play with those.
Cone on!! How come the pampered pros can’t understand that every job has some aspect that might not appeal to them? Is having to play and offer a bit of socializing to three amateur golfers for 5 hours that bad? Those amateurs paid a rediculous price for his company and he has an obligation to support who makes his life so good.
The tours kiss the pros —-, they get free everything, cars, luxury accomodations, equipment, etc.etc, and they’re treated like Gods and expect to be. I like Jim Furyk and he was probably truthful with his excuse but rules are rules and it comes with the money.
I watched Greg Norman in a pro-am once and he was really friendly, he helped the amateurs with their putts and everything so all pros aren’t hind ends.
The little darlings who hate the pro-ams so much need to grow up!
