So winner Arjun Atwal must have done pretty good in that department, right? No, Atwal didn't earn any FedEx points and won't advance into The Barclays, because he lost his PGA Tour card earlier this year after beginning the season with a partial medical exemption.
But that's OK, because now Atwal knows he has a tour card for the following two seasons.
He also knows he has his first victory on the PGA Tour and is the first player from India to win on the US PGA Tour.
Atwal's previous best finish on the USPGA was a tie for second at the 2005 BellSouth Classic, where he lost in a playoff. He finished 82nd on the money list that year. He's won previously on the Asian Tour, European Tour and Nationwide Tour.
Atwal played his way into the Wyndham Championship in the Monday qualifier, and is now only the second player in the modern, fully exempt era of the PGA Tour to Monday qualify and then win the tournament. The only time it happened before was at the 1986 Southern Open, where Fred Wadsworth did it.
As for those FedEx Cup points, the Top 125 qualify for The Barclays, and Scott Piercy, who finished tied for eighth at the Wyndham, is the last man in at No. 125. The bubble boy is Jeff Quinney, who finished tied for 34th at the Wyndham and No. 126 in FedEx Cup points. Mike Weir missed out, but David Duval got in.
Tiger Woods, who didn't play the Wyndham, finished at No. 112 in FedEx Cup points, two places behind Ryder Cup captain Corey Pavin.
