Scratch that - Kerr didn't win a major, she dominated a major. Her margin of victory in the 2010 LPGA Championship was 12 strokes. Her score in relation to par of 19-under set a tournament record and tied the record for all women's majors. Her margin of victory is second-best in the history of women's majors.
Kerr entered the final round with an 8-stroke lead and only accelerated, closing with her second 66 of the week. Song-Hee Kim was waaaaaay back there in second place at 7-under.
The previous No. 1, Ai Miyazato, could have retained her ranking by finishing second. But Miyazato came third, tying with Jiyai Shin - the golfer Miyazato took the No. 1 ranking away from just last week. We can probably expect this type of frequent jockeying over the remainder of the season between Kerr, Miyazato and Shin.
Meanwhile, Kerr has her second career major championship, her 14th career LPGA win, and is the first American to top the women's world rankings since their debut in 2006. Pretty good week of work.
