Big Break Sandals Resorts - Episode 1
By Seema Sadekar
Finally, the big day arrived - Episode 1 of Big Break Sandals Resorts! I had just finished up this past week competing in Decatur, Ill., with my favorite, fabulous (and only) sister on the bag. We both headed to St. Louis to watch the first episode with my family and friends.
Am I nervous to watch myself on television? YES! The worst part is, I am watching the show with my family - people who are brutally honest and will point and laugh at me if I do or say something stupid ... I get it a lot!
What I like about this season at Sandals Resorts is that it provided the contestants and the viewers with something new and different, giving the show a twist. From having the girls stay in a beautiful Villa to having Paul our butler spoiling us rotten, this is the best Big Break ever. From the "Save or Send" addition that caused a mini-drama, to my hair frizzing at the airport upon arrival, I knew that these tidbits would help build the show and make it that much more extraordinary.
One of the most exciting parts of making the first episode is where we all ran inside the house and declared our sleeping beds. I am so embarrassed because, as you know, I discreetly saw an open room with a walk-out deck to the pool and made it my pick. I wasn't in the mood to argue and tear my pretty, new off-the-shoulder dress, either. In the end I was happy with my decision and having Elena, Taryn and Kelly as my roommates wasn't so bad.
Now it's time for business: getting ready to hit my first shot on the Big Break. I was girl number eight to hit the 85-yard wedge shot with scowling winds and a beautiful view of the ocean. Sitting on the bench with all the girls, I felt calm, cool and collected - until it was my turn to hit. My "calm, cool and collected" attitude turned into "I am going to throw up" as my legs started twitching bad. I remember talking to Tina Lloyd, who was a contestant on Big Break Kaanapali and who is like a big sister to me, and she told me to take my time and be patient.
I took Tina's advice and took my time over that first shot. When I pulled the trigger all I felt was turf - I chunked my shot so bad, short and right. All I kept telling myself walking back to the bench, also known as "safe city," is "you did it, you made contact!" We all chuckled and laughed at our shots until we were introduced for the very first time to the "Save or Send" card. When Kelly won the first challenge and decided to save Sara, the rest of us knew we were off to the next challenge and possibly elimination.
The second challenge was a 35-yard wedge shot, and after hitting mine to 10 feet, 3 inches, I was close to going to elimination. But Maiya and Elena proceeded to hit it past me, which guaranteed me to be safe and on to the next show! YAY FOR ME, huge sigh of relief!
Watching the Elimination Challenge with Maiya and Elena was shocking and scary, it was anybody gone at any time. I felt the pressure and nerves for both the girls and I didn't want to see either of them go home. In the end they put up a great fight and unfortunately Elena was the first to get eliminated from Big Break Sandals Resorts. It was shocking to see her go home first because she is a strong competitor, a fighter, a close friend and a sexy doll!
Last but not least, I thought my hair looked great and my outfits thus far were just average. Stay tuned for more flashy and fun outfits with sparkles! See you next week!
