This is going to get buried in the U.S. Open hoopla, so lets take note of Ai Miyazato's victory at the ShopRite LPGA Classic today. Miyazato fired a final-round 64 to win by two strokes for her fifth career victory on the LPGA Tour.

With the win, Miyazato will take over the No. 1 world ranking when the new women's rankings are released on Monday.

Miyazato has played in nine LPGA events so far in 2010, and won four of them. That's good stuff. But with the international flavor of the LPGA schedule, the ShopRite is actually Miyazato's first-ever win in America.

A couple other notes from women's golf:

  • Paula Creamer returned to action at the ShopRite. Playing for the first time since reaggravating a thumb injury in the very first LPGA round of the year, Creamer finished tied for seventh.

  • A couple of amateur stars made their pro debuts over the weekend. Fifteen-year-old Alexis Thompson shot 71-76 to miss the cut at the ShopRite. Twenty-year-old Jennifer Song won her pro debut on the Duramed Futures Tour's Tate & Lyle Players Championship. Song scored 61 in the final round, tying the Futures Tour 18-hole scoring record.
