"It's selfish," former U.S. Open and British Open champion Ernie Els told Golfweek magazine. "You can write that. I feel sorry for the sponsor. Mondays are a good day to make statements, not Friday. This takes a lot away from the golf tournament."
The WGC Match Play is sponsored by Accenture, a company that dropped Woods in the tabloid aftermatch of the car crash. Now Woods schedules his public statement - and makes an announcement about that public statement - at a time when it takes attention away Accenture's tournament.
Coincidence? Or planning? You make the call.
The Accenture Match Play is getting swamped by events anyway, both inside and outside the tournament. The Olympics are dominating coverage in the sports pages. Tiger and Phil Mickelson chose not to play. And a few of the more interesting players who did play were eliminated in the first round.
Meanwhile, in the Golfweek article in which Els is quoted, reporter Jeff Rude includes this nugget:
My understanding is that Woods will announce that he will return at the Tavistock Cup exhibition at his Isleworth home and then play that week at the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill in preparation for the Masters. Palmer is expected to attend Woods' coming-out announcement.

Ernie is right —horable time —just shows his arrogants.
My question for Ernie and his supporters. Why didn’t you speak up against your countries oppression of your fellow country men in South Africa? He and the rest of the on lookers should show some restraint and grattitude to Tiger. As a casual observer of golf, I only watch golf when Woods is playing. Ernie who?
I agree with Ernie. Woods thinks its all about him and cares less what the rest of the golf world thinks. He continues to show why I despise watching him play.
Self esteem is good when you are a white male. For all others, it is arrogance and a threat.
As much trouble as Tiger is in I don’t think he would do such a thing on purpose. If so, shame on him and his handlers. That being said, I don’t think that is the case.
