Couples won the Ace Group Classic on Sunday, outlasting Tommy Armour III to do it. Armour charged with a scintillating final-round 61, but Couples wasn't too shabby himself with a Sunday 64. That was good enough to give Couples the one-stroke victory.
Couples finished second to Tom Watson in his first Champions Tour start; now, in Couples' second, he's a winner. A few weeks ago, after Couples' senior debut, I posted a poll asking whether Couples would win as much on the Champions Tour as he did on the PGA Tour. Does his victory on Sunday change the voting in that poll? Let's find out:
One thing you can be sure of is that Champions Tour officials are doing cartwheels over Couples' win. It's been a long time since such a popular player has started so strongly on the senior tour.
