John Daly is "done" with golf, at least if you believe his post-round comments today to the Golf Channel.
Daly was coming off a 71 that, coupled with an opening 79, left him near the bottom of the standings in the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines. Another missed cut, something Daly is very familiar with these days.
Talking to the Golf Channel - whose reality series, "Being John Daly," premieres on March 2 - Daly said "I'm done. I can't compete. I can't play like I used to. I can't keep taking spots from guys out here playing this bad. It's not worth it. I'm tired of embarassing myself ... I can't do it anymore."
Was Daly simply sounding off in an emotional state? Or is he serious and truly plans to retire from PGA Tour competition? He has a sponsor exemption into the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am in two weeks. Daly was asked by the Golf Channel if he will show up for that tournament. No, Daly said, he wouldn't want to take that spot away from another player.
ESPN.com has posted a transcript of the brief interview between Daly and the Golf Channel here.
Let's give Daly a little time to cool down after another bad tournament and then see what he has to say.

John Daly has had his ups and downs. I hope that he can come back and play competitive again, but for now he needs to focus on his personal issues.
