A couple of old friends are back on the LPGA Tour, with a new tournament announced today added to the 2010 LPGA schedule.

The Sybase Match Play Championship will take place May 20-23 in Hamilton Farm Golf Club in Gladstone, N.J. Both the sponsor and the course are familiar. Sybase was the title sponsor of the Sybase Classic from 2001-2009, but that event was left off the 2010 schedule when the tournament couldn't find a home.

But now the stroke-play Sybase Classic has morphed into the Sybase Match Play Championship after Hamilton Farm came on board. Hamilton Farm was the site of the LPGA's previous match-play tournament, the HSBC Women's World Match Play Championship, in 2005-06.

The new tournament helps fill in a one-month gap in the schedule. After the Bell Micro Classic May 10-16, the next tourament on the original 2010 schedule was the State Farm Classic June 10-13. The Sybase event puts the LPGA at 25 tournaments on its 2010 schedule, plus the unofficial Mojo 6 event in Jamaica in mid-April.

This is going to be an exciting tournament. Having the best women golfers in the world competing in a match play event should help the LPGA display their talent and boost their recognition.
