You might recall that the Cadillac Escalade crashed by Tiger Woods nearly two months ago turned out to be registered to General Motors. That's because GM was providing Woods with several vehicles rent-free. Woods and GM had a long sponsorship relationship (Woods acting as commercial pitchman for Buick) that ended in 2008, but even after the end of that endorsement deal GM continued providing Woods with free use of several vehicles.
No more. As first reported by USA Today, GM took its vehicles back from Woods and stopped providing him with free rides as of Dec. 31, 2009. The end of the free-ride agreement was already scheduled for yearend prior to Tiger's crash and the subsequent revelations; whether GM would have extended the deal without Woods' current issues is impossible to know.
In other Tiger news:
- Jesper Parnevik blasted Woods when the cheating allegations first came to light. Now, Parnevik - former employer of Elin Nordegren - says he's going to keep quiet. Parnevik says he has an idea of what's going on between Tiger and Elin because his wife and Elin are friends. But he's not going to talk about it. And then he did talk a little, saying that he had no idea about Woods' apparent hounddoggedness:
"More and more, you hear guys say, 'We knew about it.' I had no idea," (Parnevik) said. "Actually, I heard people sometimes say, 'We saw Tiger, we heard that Tiger had two blondes around his arm and I would say, 'No way, that was Elin and her sister.' Every story I said, 'That can't be right. Tiger would never do anything like that.' It was a big shock for me."
