Another Season-Opening Win for Ogilvy

Another season-opening win for Geoff Ogilvy on the PGA Tour. A year after winning what was then called the Mercedes-Benz Championship, Ogilvy on Sunday won the same tournament again, the winners-only event now called the SBS Championship.

Ogilvy is one of the biggest talents in the game. If anyone is going to step up his game this year - especially if Tiger Woods is out of the picture for a while - and challenge for Player of the Year honors, Ogilvy is as good a candidate as any.

The SBS is Ogilvy's seventh career PGA Tour victory. His first was the 2005 Chrysler Classic of Tucson, and each of his following wins has been a big tournament: three WGC wins, two SBS Championship wins, and, oh yeah, that 2006 U.S. Open victory.

Ogilvy knows how to win big tournaments. Last year, after winning the SBS, he won again four tournaments later at the WGC Accenture Match Play Championship. But after that, he posted only three other Top 10 finishes on the PGA Tour.

It should be interesting to see if Ogilvy takes that next step up in 2010.
