Tiger Tidbits: Elin Hires Bigshot Divorce Attorney?

Your Tiger Woods Scandal nuggets this morning:

  • According the New York Daily News, Elin Nordegren has hired high-powered divorce attorney Sorrell Trope, a Californian whom other divorce attorneys call a legend in the field. Some Los Angeles television stations had previously reported that Elin was talking with Trope.

  • Swedish watchmaker Tag Heuer says it will drop Tiger Woods from its ad campaigns in the United States for the time being. "We recognize Tiger Woods as a great sportsman but we have to take account of the sensitivity of some consumers in relation to recent events," the CEO said.

  • Several reports claim that Woods will enter a rehab facility in Wickenburg, Ariz., to be treated for "sexual compulsion" and (maybe, according to some of the reports) a prescription drug addiction. How seriously to take such reports? Who knows. So far, no legitimate media sources in Phoenix have been able to confirm (or deny) the reports. But Phoenix-area PR professionals aren't impressed, telling the Phoenix Business Journal that celebrities entering rehab is "passe." The Wickenburg facility is where David Duchovny and numerous other celebrities have gone for treatment.

  • The Arnold Palmer Invitational Web site is missing something from its homepage: Two photos of Tiger Woods that graced its homepage have been removed. Some observers believe Woods will make his return to golf at the Palmer, prior to playing The Masters. I wouldn't read too much into the removal of the Woods images. This just isn't a good time to build your marketing plan around Woods.

  • A Dallas Morning News columnist says there's no reason to feel let down that the reality of Tiger Woods apparently doesn't match the myth - his fall from grace was predicted back in 1997.

  • Corey Pavin, the U.S. Ryder Cup captain in 2010, says he expects Tiger to be as dominant as ever on the golf course once Woods returns. "Tiger's obviously a very strong-minded individual and I don't think he will play any differently when he comes back," Pavin said.
