Report: Woods Not Part of Toronto Doctor/PED Investigation

By , About.com GuideDecember 18, 2009

Follow me on:

As the New York Times reported a couple days ago, a Toronto doctor who has treated Tiger Woods is the subject of investigation(s) regarding performance-enhancing drugs such as human growth hormone (HGH). The doctor has admitted using HGH himself and prescribing it to some patients, but denies giving any PEDs to any athletes. That doctor, Dr. Anthony Galea, was charged in Canada on Wednesday with several counts relating to PEDs.

The Buffalo News has been following the story closely, and today reports something that can actually be considered good news by Tiger Woods fans. There hasn't been much of that, eh? But here is one Woods report that I hope turns out to be true.

The News report says that "sources close to (the) investigation" of Dr. Galea have told the newspaper that "no evidence has surfaced linking Tiger Woods to the use of performance-enhancing drugs" and that Woods will not face any trouble as a result of the law enforcement investigations of Dr. Galea. The News states:

Two of those sources said other professional athletes -- but not Woods -- could potentially wind up in trouble as a result of the federal investigation of Dr. Anthony Galea of Toronto.

"I know of nothing that has come up in this investigation that would indicate Tiger Woods was using (performance-enhancing drugs), and I know of nothing that would put him into any trouble with law enforcement," said one source close to the probe.

The report further states: "... No evidence from the Galea investigation indicates that (Woods) cheated in his bodybuilding regime with steroids or human growth hormone drugs, four sources close to the investigation told The News."
