Allenby insulted Kim by comparing him to John Daly, and added, "Ask his playing partners. Ask his team. He is the loosest cannon in that team." And Allenby added that he didn't care whether his comments were published. Which, of course, they were.
Only to lead Allenby - naturally - to claim his words were taken out of context. But he still apologized to Kim.
Fast forward several weeks to ... today. At the Volvo World Match Play Championship in Spain, Kim eagled the 18th hole of his match against Scott Strange to win and move into the semifinals. Where his opponent will be ... Robert Allenby.
And Allenby is no longer in a talking mood. He told reporters after today's matches, "I've been around for 18 years in this game and I've said a lot of things and regretted a lot of things. A lot of things have been written that haven't come out the right way. It's a dead issue in both Anthony and my books - I'm not answering any more questions about it."
But Kim isn't the type to clam up. He's having fun with it. And he wants to make sure everyone knows he won't be out partying the night before this match: "I'm going to tell you what I'm going to do. Dinner at 6:30 here, be done by 7:30, shower eight, internet and talk to some friends eight to nine, be in bed by 9:30!"
Perhaps Kim should invite Allenby over for a nightcap.
Update: Kim defeated Allenby 5 and 4. The score at the Presidents Cup was Kim by 5 and 3.
