The Champions Dinner at The Masters every year is a longstanding tradition that all serious golf fans know well.
Not as well known is the fact that the defending champion at the PGA Championship also hosts a dinner during championship week, and presents his fellow PGA championships with gifts.
What Padraig Harrington bought as a gift for his fellow PGA champs hasn't been revealed. But what he served at the PGA Championship's own champions dinner on Tuesday has been:
The first course was a leek and potato soup, followed by the choice of smoked salmon on soda bread and - brace yourself - warm cabbage salad with bacon and Roquefort.
The main course offered another option: Irish Beef Stew braised in Guinness with Colcannon, and grilled salmon with Irish Champ and seasonal vegetables.
Dessert was easy - Irish whiskey cake, cheesecake with a Bailey's caramel coulis or Irish pudding.
As noted, the defending PGA champion also presents the dinner attendees with a gift. Gifts given in the past include boots, engraved bottles of wine and guitars. All of them fancy and expensive, of course. And yes, the defending champ foots the bill.
