Golf In the Olympics? Consider It Done

By , About.com GuideAugust 11, 2009

Follow me on:

As you are probably aware, all the major organizations in the world of golf - the USGA, R&A, PGA Tour, LPGA Tour, European Tour and so on - are joined in a lobbying effort to get golf added to the 2016 Olympic Games (the earliest possible date for inclusion).

Well, they can all stop worrying. Golf will be part of the 2016 Olympics. It's a done deal.

Why? Because today Tiger Woods stated that he will play in the 2016 Olympic golf tournament, should there be one.

The International Olympic Committee's top board meets on Thursday to recommend two sports to be added for the 2016 Games. Anyone want to bet against golf getting the call now?

Softball was removed from the Olympics because the American women won every game except the 2008 gold medal game(The decision to dump the sport was made before that game was even played.) If Tiger is in the Olympics then USA Softball should get another shot since they are the next best “sure” thing.
