The record for most consecutive birdies in a PGA Tour event is nine, and several others have recorded eight in a row. Let's count them down, plus provide a few more details.

9 Consecutive Birdies

Two golfers in PGA Tour history have made nine birdies in a row during a tour event:

  • Mark Calcavecchia, 2009 RBC Canadian Open (second round, 65)
  • Kevin Chappell, 2019 A Military Tribute at The Greenbrier (second round, 59)

Calcavecchia began his second round on the 10th hole. His birdie streak began on the par-3 No. 12 hole, continued on holes 13, 14, 15, 16, 17 and 18, then carried over to holes 1 and 2. The final birdie in his streak was on the par-5 second hole. The streak ended with a par on the No. 3 hole.

Calcavecchia finished the tournament in a tie for eighth place.

Chappell's birdie streak of nine happened during what was also the 11th round of 59 or better in PGA Tour history. He also started on the back nine, so Chappell's streak started on No. 11, continued through No. 18, then another one on No. 1, before ending.

8 Consecutive Birdies

These golfers all had birdie streaks of eight holes in a PGA Tour tournament:

  • Bob Goalby, 1961 St. Petersburg Open (final round, 65)
  • Fuzzy Zoeller, 1976 Quad Cities Open (first round, 63)
  • Dewey Arnette, 1987 Buick Open (first round, 65)
  • Edward Fryatt, 2000 Doral-Ryder Open (second round, 69)
  • J.P. Hayes, 2002 Bob Hope Chrysler Classic (first round, 65)
  • Jerry Kelly, 2003 Las Vegas Invitational (third round, 65)
  • Chris Stroud, 2011 Mayakoba Golf Classic (second round, 63)
  • Scott Piercy, 2011 Reno-Tahoe Open (third round, 61)

Did Any of These Golfers Win?

We already know that the record-holder, Calcavecchia, finished eighth in the tournament in which he set the record. What about those golfers who made eight birdies in a row?

Yes, three of those golfers did go on to win the tournament: Goalby, Zoeller, and Piercy are the golfers on this list who went on to win the tournament. Arnette finished 47th, Fryatt tied for ninth, Hayes tied for 16th, Kelly tied for ninth, and Stroud tied for fourth.

Who Made the Most Birdies in a Row at End to Win?

Kevin Streelman is the record-holder for making the most consecutive birdies at the end of a tournament to win it. He closed with seven birdies in a row to win the 2014 Travelers Championship. See our Consecutive Birdies to Win page for more, plus others who rank high in that category.

Plus a Few Birdie-Eagle Streaks

Also, note that three other golfers have carded 8-hole streaks of sub-par scores that included both birdies and eagles:

  • Billy Mayfair, 2001 Buick Open, final round - seven birdies and one eagle
  • Briny Baird, 2003 FUNAI Classic at Walt Disney World Resort, second round - seven birdies and one eagle
  • Ryan Palmer, 2015 Humana Challenge, second round - six birdies and two eagles

Longest Birdie Streaks on Other Tours

On the European Tour, Bernd Wiesberger reeled off nine consecutive birdies in the second round of the 2017 Maybank Championship. The LPGA record for consecutive birdies is also nine, shared by Beth Daniel and Amy Yang.
