Report: Mickelson to Play St. Jude, U.S. Open

Reporter Tim Rosaforte has a breaking news report over on the Golf World Web site (see article) about Phil Mickelson's schedule. Mickelson, Rosaforte reports, will play next week at the St. Jude Classic and the following week at the U.S. Open.

Mickelson's status for the U.S. Open had been up in the air since his wife Amy was diagnosed with breast cancer. The Mickelsons have been awaiting a treatment schedule before considering Phil's golf schedule. But Rosaforte reports:

According to sources, Mickelson is basing his schedule on Amy's latest tests and an anticipated surgical date of late June or early July. Beyond a return to Bethpage, where Mickelson finished second in '02, the schedule is day-to-day and will be based on Amy's surgery, treatment and recovery. In other words, the British Open is still up in the air.
