Asian Tour Golfer Sets New Scoring Record

Thai golfer Chapchai Nirat won the Asian Tour Sail Open today in India, and in so doing he posted the lowest score in relation to par ever scored on the Asian Tour, European Tour or PGA Tour.

Nirat's 32-under total was accomplished with rounds of 62-62-65-67 on the par-72 Classic Golf Resort in New Delhi. That 32-under score is the new record for a 72-hole tournament.

Interestingly, the previous bests for score in relation to par on the Asian Tour, European Tour and US PGA Tour were (and in two cases, still are) held by Ernie Els. Els' score of 29-under at the 2003 Johnnie Walker Classic was the previous Asian Tour record. The tournament was cosponsored with the European Tour, so Els still holds the Euro record with that score. And Els' 31-under at the 2003 Mercedes Championship is the PGA Tour record.
