Davis Love III Turns 20
Davis Love III, who has been plagued by injuries the past couple seasons, won the Children's Miracle Network Classic on Sunday, his first win in two seasons in the final tour event of 2008.
For Love, it's career win No. 20 on the PGA Tour. That's a milestone number. In the history of the PGA Tour, only 36 other golfers have won as many as 20 tournaments. Among those who never reached 20 are Ben Crenshaw, Tom Kite, Nick Price, Hubert Green, Julius Boros and Curtis Strange.
This win guarantees Love a spot in the World Golf Hall of Fame. Not that there was much doubt before, but the combination of 20 wins and one major championship removes all doubt for Love.
Also significant at the Disney event is the runner-up to Love: Former "Big Break" contestant Tommy "Two Gloves" Gainey. Gainey charged over the back nine with a 30, but came up one stroke short.
The second-place showing wasn't enough to boost Gainey into the Top 125 on the money list, however. He finished the season No. 148 because he cashed in only five other tournaments, while missing the cut 17 times.
