Sweden In the Spirit

Saturday October 11, 2008
Team Sweden completed a dominant performance on Sunday in the World Amateur Team Championship women's golf tournament, also known as the Epirito Santo Trophy. The tournament, in which teams of three compete under their country's flag, was played in Adelaide, Australia.

And Team Sweden finished off a wire-to-wire victory with ease, winning by eight strokes over Spain. Sweden's lead at the end of each of the four rounds was never less than eight strokes.

Team Sweden was comprised of:

  • Carolina Hedwall, the individual winner and a freshman at Okahoma State University. (She has a twin sister, Jacqueline, who is a freshman at LSU.)
  • Anna Nordqvist, the individual runner-up and a junior at Arizona State. Nordqvist will be playing in the LPGA's Q-School finals next month.
  • Pernilla Lindberg, a senior at Okahoma State.
The United States team of Amanda Blumenherst, Tiffany Joh and Alison Walshe finished third.

The Espirito Santo Trophy is a tournament of the International Golf Federation. View the full scores.
