This Week: Valero Texas Open

Monday October 6, 2008
The Texas Open is one of the oldest tournaments on the PGA Tour schedule, first played in 1922. These days, the Valero Texas Open is part of the Fall Finish, but that changes next year when the event moves to a coveted Spring date as part of the FedEx Cup series. That means the tournament will be played twice within the span of seven months.

And in 2010 the Texas Open moves to a Greg Norman-designed course currently under construction as part of the TPC San Antonio complex. (A Pete Dye course is also being built and will become the site of San Antonio's Champions Tour event.)

Justin Leonard, a 3-time winner, is the defending champion in this event, which is known for producing very low scores. Check out the Texas Open tournament profile for the long list of past champions, plus other tourney trivia and info.
