Patriot Golf Day Extends Over Labor Day Weekend
It's called Patriot Golf Day, but this year - the second year of the event - it's actually Patriot Golf weekend. The event - which raises money for the families of veterans - takes place at golf courses across the U.S. on Aug. 29-Sept. 1, Labor Day weekend. The event is the brainchild of Maj. Dan Rooney, USAF, an Iraq War veteran, F-16 fighter pilot - and a PGA Golf Professional. During Labor Day weekend, golfers playing at one of more than 3,200 participating golf courses in America can add $1 or more to their greens fees. Those funds are raised for the Folds of Honor Foundation's scholarship fund, and used to provide scholarships to spouses and children of military service members disabled or killed in the line of duty.
The first Patriot Golf Day, in 2007, raised more than $1.1 million. To find a participating golf course near you, visit www.patriotgolfday.com.

Sounds like a great idea, at least on the surface. I don’t mind spending an extra $1 or 2 for a good cause. But I wonder how the money actually gets disbursed?
Some vetrans families don’t need extra money, while others are really at a hardship because of the war. And who makes the decision on who gets what – or does every family get something?
Sounds like a boondoggle to me.
