Parting Is Such Swede Sorrow

Friday August 8, 2008
While we're all focused on the PGA Championship this week, keep a little bit of your peripheral vision turned toward Sweden, where Annika Sorenstam is playing what should be - if she sticks to her retirement plans - her final event in her homeland.

And it's her own tournament, and she leads after the first round. The second round of the Scandinavian TPC hosted by Annika was rained out Friday, and the tournament has been shortened to 54 holes. The Ladies European Tour tournament is played at Frosaker Golf and Country Club in Vasteras, Sweden, about an hour's drive from Annika's parents' house.

Sorenstam has the lead with a first-round 66.

Annika's final tournament appearance in Europe will be the Nykredit Masters in Denmark, Sept. 5-7, and her grande finale takes place Dec. 11-14 at the Dubai Ladies Masters.

Check the LET Web site for updates on the Scandinavian TPC.
