Greg Norman: In U.S. Senior Open; Out of PGA Championship
Norman took a little time to mull over his response, finishing strong at the Senior British Open last weekend, but ultimately decided, Tim Rosaforte reports in the Golf Digest "Local Knowledge" blog, to decline the invitation.
Had Norman accepted, it would have meant four straight weeks of major tournament golf: The British Open, followed by the Senior British Open, this week's U.S. Senior Open, then next week's PGA Championship. It was just too much golf for a guy who rarely plays at all anymore. And remember - all this is happening during what is supposed to be Norman's honeymoon with his new bride, tennis legend Chris Evert.

It is disappointing to hear Greg Norman chose to decline the invitation handed out to him by the organizers of the U.S. PGA Championship. Would it not have been possible for him to pass either the British Senior Open or the U.S. Senior Open to give the last major of the year a serious shot? At least it would have given us a fair idea whether his performance in the Open Championship was a flash in the pan or did the shark actually have it in him to compete with the younger guys. He might have tried to soak in the new found adulation for him from the fans, so I don’t quite understand why he would choose to miss it. The U.S. PGA Championship obviously reckons he is worthy enough to compete then why would he not return the favour?
