Shute, Wood Lead New Hall of Fame Class
Wednesday June 25, 2008
Denny Shute and Craig Wood are two old-time golfers on whose behalf a campaign has been waged the past several years. A campaign to get both elected to the World Golf Hall of Fame.
Those campaigns paid off this week when golf's Hall announced four new members: Shute, Wood, amateur legend Carol Semple Thompson and famed writer Herbert Warren Wind.
Shute was the only golfer with at least three majors who was not already in the Hall. Wood holds the distinction of being the first golfer to lose all four professional majors in playoffs - but he later won two majors.
