Big Week for Women's Amateur Golf

Monday June 16, 2008
One of the biggest women's amateur tournaments concluded on Sunday, and another one begins today.

At the British Ladies Amateur Championship, played at North Berwick, Scotland, Anna Nordqvist defeated Caroline Hedwall in an all-Swedish final, 3 and 2. Nordqvist, the runner-up the past two championships, plays collegiately at Arizona State University. Hedwall - who beat her twin sister Jacqueline in the semifinals - will attend Oklahoma State University next season.

And today, the U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championship starts at Erin Hills in Wisconsin. This USGA championship is for women golfers who are not members of private clubs. NCAA Player of the Year Amanda Blumenherst is in the field, as is 2007 WAPL champ Mina Harigae and 2006 winner Tiffany Joh, along with junior star and past U.S. Women's Amateur champion Kimberly Kim.
