Michelle Wie, Alexis Thompson Among U.S. Women's Open Qualifiers

Tuesday June 10, 2008
The final round of qualifying for the U.S. Women's Open took place on Monday, with sectional qualifiers at seven locations around the U.S. Each qualifier was one day, 36 holes.

The biggest name to earn her way into the U.S. Women's Open via the sectionals is that of Michelle Wie. Wie, who appears to steadily be working herself back into her old form, shot 70-67 in the Rockville, Md., sectional, to finish second to Kelli Kuehne.

Also qualifying was 13-year-old Alexis Thompson, who made a splash last year when she played in the U.S. Women's Open at the age of 12. Thompson finished third in the Hobe Sound, Fla., sectional.

Other qualifiers include former U.S. Women's Open champion Liselotte Neumann, Jill McGill, Michelle Redman, Meena Lee, Ji-Young Oh, Helen Alfredsson, Charlotte Mayorkas, Patricia Meunier-Lebouc, Heather Young, Karin Sjodin, Jennifer Rosales, Carin Koch, Amy Yang, Ashleigh Simon, Virada Nirapathpongporn and Stacy Lewis.

The full list of qualifiers is available on the USGA site.
