Rookie Yani Tseng Wins LPGA Championship
Sunday June 8, 2008
Annika Sorenstam and Lorena Ochoa were both in position to win the McDonald's LPGA Championship on Sunday, but in the end it wasn't the veterans who made the clutch shots, it was 19-year-old rookie Yani Tseng.
Tseng, from Taiwan, made a 5-foot, 9-inch birdie putt on the fourth playoff hole to defeat Maria Hjorth and win the second LPGA major of 2008. In so doing, she also earned her first victory on the LPGA Tour, and put her name in the LPGA record book as only the second teenager to win an LPGA major.
