"Mr. 59"

Saturday June 7, 2008
With the PGA Tour's Memphis stop taking place, let's recall the golfer who will always be known as "Mr. 59," Al Geiberger.

Geiberger was already a major championship winner by the time he reached Memphis in 1977, but what happened that year at the Danny Thomas Memphis Classic (now known as the Stanford St. Jude Championship) sealed Geiberger's place in history. That year, he became the first golfer to shoot 59 in a PGA Tour tournament.

Read the profile of Al Geiberger, and you can also check out the list of golfers who've scored 59 on the PGA Tour (there have only been a couple more since 1977).
