Michelle Wie Has a - Gasp! - Good Tournament
The event was the Ladies German Open on the Ladies European Tour (LET), and Wie finished sixth at 14-under par. Has Wie finally started to turn the corner? Is she finally on the road to recapturing the form that made her a superstar by age 14?
That might still be a ways off, but her play in Germany is certainly cause for optimism among Wie fans. Wie posted rounds of 68-69-70-67. Her first round included no bogeys - the first time in a long time that has happened for her - and she made only three bogeys all week. Perhaps more importantly, Wie had no blow-up holes. Nothing worse than those three bogeys. Throughout her ordeal of 2007, Wie was plagued by blow-up holes, scoring 10s, scoring 8s - a sure sign that she had no real control over her swing.
Those holes were gone this week (and actually, in her last LPGA event, too, even though she missed the cut in that tournament), and her driving distance is starting to tick upward again, too.
All positive signs from Wie. But now let's see her do something like this on the LPGA.
