Handicap FAQ: Determining Strokes When Playing from Different Tees

Friday May 16, 2008
This entry in our Handicap FAQ concerns matches played between golfers who can't agree on the tees. You know, you want to play from the Blues and your buddy wants to play from the Whites. Not to worry - the handicap system has got you covered. You can still compete using course handicaps, there's just one extra step you need to take to decide who gets strokes and how many.

(1) Geoff Wilkie says:

So how do you determine the honor for tee shots with different tees, for instance in a pro-am with two pros and two amateurs? Pro A might have the honor over Pro B, but Pro B’s team might have the honor over Pro A’s team thanks to Pro B’s amateur partner. What is the correct order? Can an amateur ever get to hit first if everyone shares the same tee ground? This is never explained to the public at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am. But then the hole handicaps aren’t listed in the program or pairing sheets either!
