Golf's Impact on U.S. Economy Exceeds Motion Picture Industry's

That's according to a recent report issued by the World Golf Foundation's Golf 20/20 initiative. The Golf Economy Report found that the direct economic impact of golf in the United States exceeded the direct economic impact of Hollywood:

  • Golf - $75.9 billion direct economic impact
  • Motion pictures and videos - $73.9 billion
  • Performing arts, spectator sports and related industries - $64.7 billion
  • Newspapers - $50.1 billion
A similar report issued in 2000 pegged the direct economic impact of golf in the U.S. at around $62 billion.

The total economic impact of golf on the U.S. economy, including indirect impact and job and wage creation, approached $200 billion according to the study.
