Morgan Pressel Youngest-Ever LPGA Major Winner
The first of the "Dream Teens" of women's golf to win a major? Not Paula Creamer, who collapsed on Sunday at the Kraft Nabisco Championship. Not Michelle Wie, who wasn't even playing. But Morgan Pressel, who not only won her first major, but also her first LPGA tournament of any kind.Pressel quietly put together a stellar round at the Kraft Nabisco on Sunday, just hanging around the leaders, usually several strokes back, for most of the day. Then she birdied No. 18 to reach 3-under, just as those ahead of her on the leaderboard began unraveling. And about 45 minutes after Pressel finished her round, she watched the last of the onetime leaders miss a putt to tie, and became a major champion.
At 18 years, 10 months and 9 days old, Pressel is the youngest LPGA major champion ever, and is the youngest major winner in women's or men's golf in the modern era (Young Tom Morris was only 17 when he won the 1868 British Open). Pressel is also the fourth-youngest winner ever of any LPGA Tour event:
