Tilghman Joins Faldo to Lead Golf Channel's PGA Tour Broadcasts
(Update: If you're here looking for info about Kelly Tilghman's "lynch" comment, see this post.)We already knew that Nick Faldo would be the lead analyst for PGA Tour broadcasts by The Golf Channel beginning in 2007.
Now we know that Kelly Tilghman will be the play-by-play announcer in the booth with Faldo. Tilghman, one of the most popular personalities on TGC, becomes the first woman to be the ful-time play-by-play announcer in the history of golf broadcasting.
The Golf Channel announced on Monday its lineup for 2007 PGA Tour broadcasts. And we better like it, because TGC will be airing at least the first two rounds of every official money event on the tour schedule. So we'll be seeing, and hearing, a lot of these folks.
Rocco Mediate is also joining the TGC team as an on-course reporter, and TGC will work in broadcasters from CBS and NBC to its own coverage, depending on which of those networks has weekend coverage.

Here, from the TGC news release, is the rest of The Golf Channel's PGA Tour team and its description of each:
- Peter Oosterhuis, who in 1995 paired with Renton Laidlaw to host the Dubai Desert Classic – the first golf tournament ever televised on The Golf Channel – will continue as a Golf Channel mainstay and will don several hats, including 17th tower analyst and supporting the network’s ample offering of studio shows surrounding its golf coverage.
- Mark Rolfing, who has served as host for Champions Tour events on The Golf Channel, will reprise that role for numerous PGA TOUR events during the FedExCup season. With intimate knowledge of Hawaii golf, he also will serve as a tower analyst for both the Mercedes-Benz Championship and Sony Open.
- Dottie Pepper will be expanding her tournament role with The Golf Channel. Already lead analyst for the network’s LPGA Tour telecasts, she will serve as an on-course reporter for a select number of events, beginning with the Mercedes-Benz Championship and the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic.
- Rocco Mediate, current player and five-time PGA TOUR champion, will serve as an on-course reporter. Other than through his tournament play, Golf Channel viewers have enjoyed Mediate’s personable and entertaining manner as a featured player on the network’s popular Playing Lessons With the Pros and Personal Lessons series.
- Rich Lerner, ever-versatile and, along with Tilghman, one of The Golf Channel’s long-time cast, will assume several roles. He will provide play-by-play commentary for select tournaments and, as show host, he will set the scene for viewers at the beginning of PGA TOUR telecasts, as well as conducting player interviews and delivering his signature essays.
- Frank Nobilo, who has lent his valuable expertise to The Golf Channel as former player with 14 worldwide wins, will serve as an analyst for select FedExCup season and Fall Series events. He also will continue to contribute as lead analyst for the network’s Champions Tour telecasts, as well as studio shows.
- Jerry Foltz will supplement his duties as lead on-course reporter for The Golf Channel’s Nationwide Tour telecasts and contribute in the same capacity for the first three PGA TOUR events of 2007, as well as other select events for the balance of the season.
- Steve Sands, who has been a Golf Central reporter for PGA TOUR events, will continue in that role, but will become part of the network’s Thursday and Friday telecasts conducting player interviews. He also will contribute to studio programs while covering tournament play.

Kelly Tilghman tries too hard to be “one of the guys”. Bad choice for that job. Too bad.
Kelly does a great job…so don’t see any problems. Besides she’s prettier than the fellas.
Kelly is a great choice. I didn’t see Brandle Chamblee listed though. Is he out of the picture? I’m not a big Frank Nobilo fan but I do like Brandle.
I think Kelly is not the man for the men’s tournments. When women try to analyze what the men are doing they put too much woman into it. Maybe she should try the LPGA first.
Kelly is a great choice. She keeps the show moving and always has a smile. Way to go Kelly!
You guys have to be kidding me, how did this women get this JOB?
she has to be the worst choice.
She brings nothing to the table and on top of that she talks non stop. So me and all my friends just don’t watch it till the weekend, what are you guys thinking? she has to go now…
How much longer with Kelly?? You have
Rich Lerner waiting, at least he has
some charisma.
george
My wife and I think Kelly is terrific and she has a nice personna + excellent diction; the southern pronunciations are like soul food!
She’s smart…but not a smart ass.
Megan West is the person who has to be hidden and muzzled: that screeching, high-pitched voice! When she is ‘on’, I head for my bar and a stiff Bushmills Irish whiskey.
damn…all the american announcers BLOW…the europeans do a far better job. Ever heard of a lil thing called a RISING INFLECTION?? Watson on the 3rd tee? 225 yards? Frank?
As a veteran radio announcer I can tell you damn near every one of those sports announcers (golf is the worst)and damn near all announcers (radio, sports etc…) all have these rising inflections and the second you start hearing them and recognizing them it will drive you as bloody nuts as it does me.
Re: Rich Lerner…shut the hell up already…everything with him is some story that has absolutely no relation to the topic at hand. And far to melodramatic for my taste…
Let’s just put it this way…I NEVER used to watch golf until one day, I heard Kelly Tilghman’s voice in golf language, and I am hooked. She makes in interesting to women…which, let’s face it, adds money to the program
I will not be tuning in as long as she is on the air.
Kelly Tilghman can and did say exactly what she thought. Unfortunately it was insensitive, hateful and without any sense of responsibility to the position she is holding. Golf channel or not Golf Channel she be required to do more than just apologize to Tiger Woods. What she said is not acceptable and we can not continue to tolerate such mindless comments. If she were a doctor and mindlessly left an instrument in a patient would we be so haphazard to what was done?
you people must be pretty desperate if you have to sink so so so low under the earth to dig up the worm that makes the assinine, stupid, comments against a smooth, talented, skilled, adept, player, such as Tiger Woods, she’s jealous and you can’t find any better…tsk, tsk, tsk…
Comments like that will no longer be accepted in this generation. Fire her!!!!!! No excuses, she should learn to think before she speaks!!!!
Too much to do about nothing. The comment was made with no malice and no depth. Let it go and move on.
Dana Browning’s comment, “Too much to do about nothing” proves that she is clueless about the horrific history of white mobs feeling the same way while watching a black person hanging from a tree. That announcer is not smart enough to be a golf announcer, but maybe some back woods sport like hog calling where mindless comments are expected.
I am not sure if my comments will be directed to the appropriate representative; however, I must voice my opinion concerning Kelly Tilghman remarks about “lynching” Tiger Woods. I am not a golf fan; however, I make every attempt to be on the right side of right and I question her remarks as well as the Golf Channel’s action. Will Smith recent remarks concerning Hitler were immediately addressed by A. Foxman and the ADL; however, I guess Black experiences or any other experiences for the matter does not have the same value.
Too bad Kelly is such an idiot, why would anyone in world publically announce on national
tv to have Tiger Woods lynched! He right now is the greatest living golfer to ever play the game! Apoligies are not enough, suspend or get rid of her!
Fire Her Now. Never let her work in the business again.
FIRE HER NOW!!!!!!!
Anyone who has any kind of intelligence and has lived past 15 should know that lynching is what is done to “n” and it is unexcusable for Kelly to not know better. What is she doing as a broadcaster in tv?
This is not about Tiger Woods!
It is about me!
It is about you!
It is about the history that binds us…
Any idiot knows that words, taken in context, are powerful. Imus’s comment was tasteless but benign.
Tilghman’s statement is not only hurtful, it could have catastrophic consequences!
Your boss or teacher will not laugh at this joke:
“I’ll kill you if you…”
The court of law would not be amused either.
“I’ll gas you up, buddy!” will not make a Jew laugh.
“I’ll lynch your father and hang you to the back of my pickup truck” will not make a Black person laugh.
Even in writing, I found it difficult to use this word, lynch. It is such a cruel and hate-filled word that it should even be banned from the dictionary.
Kelly, your comment was about 25 years too early, apparently. I’m not voting for Obama, because he’s liberal, I don’t care what color his skin is, but maybe, just maybe, if we do have a black president, we can finally put all of this behind us. We still can’t judge someone by the content of their character.
Fire her!!! She does not deserve to go on TV. No Mercy!!!
Anyone condoning this needs to have their heads examined.
She hasn’t done anything for the game of golf except shake her assets around while she’s carrying a bag around.
She should have been booted off the telecast immediately. If this was a man saying it, there would have been much more of an uproar.
Those saying “it’s ok, she should stay.” You’re only looking at a pretty face, a 900 # voice and an empty head. Empty head… which is what those of you have if you actually are accepting this as “ok.”
Shame on you Kelly. How small of you over a game. What a shameful remark. Hopefully, Kelly’s parents are as embarrassed as I am ashamed of her smallness. How shallow. How sad. So ugly.
Kelly, I guess your Irish EYES arent SHINNING any more.
kelly needs to go with all the talent out there and they picked her geez,i guess i will be listening to music while am watching golf from now on,she wont make it long at the post why wouldnt they look at espn or one of the networks for talent.her comments will cut her throat sooner then later KELLY MUST GO
I can’t believe the responses I am reading here. This woman, who from what I understand, is a friend of Wood’s made a comment with absolutley no malice intended and most of you are calling for her job? I guess Sharpton has many deciples out there. By the way, does he actually have a job or does he just sit around waiting for people to say things that he considers malicious and scream for them to be fired. Get a life Sharpton!! At best, what she said was unfortunate. It seems Tiger has gotten over it, perhaps all of you others should as well
She knew what she was saying!!(Remember: Michael Richards & Don Imus)
Stop!! Treating this WOMAN as if she’s a child. She”s just an”IGNORANT WITCH”.
I can not believe Al Sharpton is even considered a real activist! If he is so concerned about everyone being treated fair, and speaking “fair”.. then why has he not taken a stance against the rap industry.. these people discriminate against race, gender, you name it!! …and it’s all for commerce..but I guess that’s ok… I think everyone needs to grow the hell up!!!
