"Big Break" Winner Ashley Prange on LPGA
The PGA Championship isn't the only tournament going on this week. The European Tour is in Russia for the Imperial Collection Russian Open in Moscow. The Champions Tour is playing the Boeing Greater Seattle Classic. And the LPGA Tour is playing the Safeway Classic in Portland, Ore. That's where "Big Break V" winner Ashley Prange claims her prize for winning The Golf Channel's competition - a spot in the field.
The Golf Channel will follow Prange at the Safeway during its evening coverage of the event, 10 p.m.-midnight (ET) Friday through Sunday.
You have to wonder whether Ashley is more excited or concerned about this appearance, however. She's won twice on the Futures Tour this year and currently sits fourth on the Futures Tour money list. The Top 5 finishers on that list automatically earn LPGA Tour cards for 2007.
There are only three tournaments left on the Futures Tour schedule - including this week's Hunters Oak Futures Golf Classic in Queenstown, Maryland. So, sure, Prange gets to play on the LPGA this week, but she does so by putting her standing on the Futures Tour money list at risk.
And here's another "Big Break" note: Kristy McPherson, a contestant on the upcoming "Big Break VI," has won twice on the Futures Tour this year, including last week at the Betty Puskar Futures Golf Classic.
