Update: "Big Break I" Winner Justin Peters

Wednesday July 26, 2006
justin peters When "The Big Break" debuted on The Golf Channel several years ago, it quickly became a hit - thanks in large part to an engaging cast. Justin Peters, the eventual winner, was a very likable guy, and also a talented one. He'd toiled on the mini-tour circuit, but also sometimes had to return to work as a caddie at his local club to makes ends meet.

Well, things are looking up for Justin these days. This week, he made it through Monday qualifying to earn a spot in the field for the PGA Tour U.S. Bank Championship, which starts Thursday. A couple weeks ago, Peters did the same thing at the Booz Allen Classic (he shot 77-74 and missed the cut).

By winning the inaugural "Big Break," Peters earned four exemptions into Canadian Tour events. He suffered an injury in the first one, had to withdraw, and missed the second one. But he made the cut in the final two. Injuries have hampered Peters' performance over the years, but he's apparently healthy now.

This year, in addition to his PGA Tour Monday qualifying efforts, Peters has finished no lower than 11th in seven appearances on the Grey Goose Gateway Tour, earning around $32,000.

Interesting side note regarding Peters' PGA Tour appearance this week: His caddie will be fellow "Big Break I" contestant Mark Farnham.
