Woods Surges Into Lead at Mid-Day in Round 2

Friday July 21, 2006
Tiger Woods holed out from 209 yards away for an eagle on the par-4 14th Friday, helping him to a round of 65 and the mid-day lead in Round 2 of the British Open.

Woods was already in the lead when he scored the eagle - his shot hit the front of the green, took a couple hops, hit the flagstick and dropped into the cup.

As this is written, Woods (12-under) is three shots clear of second-place Chris DiMarco (9-under). Among those golfers who have completed their second rounds, however, are plenty of big names within striking distance: Retief Goosen is at 8-under, Adam Scott and Sergio Garcia at 7-under. Ernie Els is through 10 holes at the time of this writing and has gotten to 8-under.
