U.S. Open - Day 2: Stricker Leads, Tiger Leaves

Friday June 16, 2006
After two days at the U.S. Open, Steve Stricker is the only golfer under par. And Tiger Woods is no longer in the tournament, missing the cut in a major for the first time as a professional.

Leaders
Steve Stricker, -1
Colin Montgomerie, even
Geoff Ogilvy, +1
Kenneth Ferrie, +1
Jim Furyk, +2
Padraig Harrington, +2
Graeme McDowell, +3
Phil Mickelson, +3
Arron Oberholser, +3
Jason Dufner, +3

Stricker holed out from bunkers twice during his round of 69, including for a birdie on the 18th hole. Stricker's 69 was one of five sub-par rounds posted on Friday; Harrington (69), Oberholser (68), David Duval (68) and Luke Donald (69) had the others.

Missed Cut
Stuart Appleby, +11
Tiger Woods, +12
Davis Love III, +14
Retief Goosen, +15
Sergio Garcia, +16

Woods hit just seven of 28 fairways during his back-to-back rounds of 76, and when he did finally get it on the green he never had the right speed on his putts. Tiger last missed a cut in a major at the 1996 Masters, when he was still an amateur. He had made 39 cuts in a row in majors, a record he shares with Jack Nicklaus.
