U.S. Open Pairings, Tee Times Announced

Phil Mickelson tees off from the No. 10 hole at 7:55 EDT Thursday morning, and Tiger Woods from the No. 1 hole at 1:25 p.m. EDT in pairings announced by the USGA for this week's U.S. Open golf championship.

Mickelson is paired with Tim Clark and Thomas Bjorn. Woods, in the traditional pairing of the defending U.S. Open champion, U.S. Amateur champ, and British Open winner, is paired with Michael Campbell and Edoardo Molinari.

Two groups that jumped out at me for their potential are the pairing of Vijay Singh, Shingo Katayama and David Toms; and the pairing of Jim Furyk, Adam Scott and Chad Campbell. I can see any of the Furyk pairing winning, and Singh and Toms will likely be in the mix, as well - assuming Mickelson or Woods doesn't claim the crown.

There's another pairing the likely won't produce the winner, but will produce plenty of fireworks: Big bombers J.B. Holmes, Camillo Villegas and Scott Hend are sure to draw crowds.
