New Wedges, Putters from Callaway

By , About.com GuideApril 13, 2006

Follow me on:

A couple new product offerings from the Callaway stable:

• The Callaway X-Tour wedges are, the company says, "short-game scoring tools inspired by ... Phil Mickelson and designed by legendary golf club craftsman Roger Cleveland." The X-Tour Wedges are aimed at better players seeking maximum spin potential for greater control around the greens. Forged from from soft 1020 carbon steel, they feature what Callaway calls "Mack Daddy" grooves - larger (but conforming) grooves that really grab onto the ball.

Two finishes are offered for the X-Tour Wedges, Satin Chrome and Vintage (a darker, glare-reducing patina preferred by many touring pros). Lofts start at 50 degrees and go up to 60, with bounce varying between 11 and 13 depending on the model. The Callaway X-Tour Wedges are available at retail beginning April 15. MSRP is $135 for Satin Chrome and $150 for Vintage. More info

• Odyssey, a Callaway brand, has the White Hot XG putter family ready to go. The White Hot XG putters (one of which was used by Phil Mickelson in his runaway win at the BellSouth) feature a multi-layer insert - an insert made by blending two materials of differing firmness to create what Callaway claims is a feel "superior to that found in any single insert putter." Eight models of the White Hot XG putter will be available beginning April 15, with different head shapes and shaft combos, as well as various options for length. The MSRP is $150. More info

For sure I’ll have to start testing them out myself. Will keep this in mind for my next game.
