2007 U.S. Solheim Cup Captain Announced

Thursday January 5, 2006
World Golf Hall of Fame member Betsy King will captain the U.S. team at the 2007 Solheim Cup, it was announced on Thursday. King was selected by a five-member committee formed by the LPGA Board of Directors. Helen Alfredsson was previously announced as the European captain for 2007.

King, a 34-time winner on the LPGA Tour, competed on five American Solheim Cup teams, and her 8 points earned in the event is the most of any U.S. captain to date. That mark will probably be eclipsed by King's assistant captain in 2007, Beth Daniel, whose selection was also announced on Thursday. Daniel has scored 13.5 points in Solheim Cup play and seems the obvious choice for American captain in 2009.
