LPGA Changes Course, Welcomes Pressel to Tour
Monday December 19, 2005
Last July, Morgan Pressel petitioned the LPGA Tour for permission to join the Tour prior to her 18th birthday. Then-commissioner Ty Votaw said Pressel could take part in the LPGA Qualifying Tournament, but would have to wait until her 18th birthday before joining the Tour full-time.
Today, new LPGA commissioner Carolyn Bivens changed the Tour's tune, saying the 17-year-old Pressel can compete as a full member of the Tour beginning immediately. Pressel finished sixth at LPGA Q-School and turns 18 in May.
Bivens cited Pressel's accomplishments since that original ruling, along with public support for Pressel, in making her decision.
As for Pressel, she's ready to go: "I can't wait for the season to start, and to be able to fully compete and be a part of the rookie race," she said. "Also, having a full season to try and qualify for the LPGA Playoffs at The ADT is a great opportunity."
