Miyazato Wins LPGA Q-School; Pressel Earns Card
Sunday December 4, 2005
Ai Miyazato recently graduated from "Dream Teen" status when she turned 20 years old. Now, she's graduating from the LPGA of Japan to the LPGA Tour after winning the final stage of the LPGA Qualifying tournament by a record-setting 12 strokes.
Miyazato won six times on the LPGA of Japan tour, the world's second most-lucrative women's tour, in 2005. On Sunday, she wrapped up five days of dominance at the LPGA Q-School with a final score of 17-under par, 12 strokes ahead of runners-up Libby Smith and Lee Ann Walker-Cooper.
Morgan Pressel, at 17 still one of the "Dream Teens" of women's golf, finished tied for 6th to earn her LPGA Tour card. However, because she is below the age of 18 required for tour membership, Pressel won't be able to play full-time until her 18th birthday in May.
In all, 24 golfers earned fully exempt status on the LPGA Tour for 2005. See the final results.
