Equipment Update: r7 Irons, Odyssey Putters, More

Wednesday November 2, 2005
What's new in the equipment world this week? TaylorMade is introducing three new sets of irons, one an updated Miscela set for women. The other two are r7 irons, the r7 CGB Max and r7 XD irons. Callaway/Odyssey has several new putters to offer in the Dual Force 2 and White Steel lineups. And UST has a putter shaft that it says will help improve feel on the greens. For details

TaylorMade Irons
TaylorMade's r7 irons carry the r7 brand, but they do not incorporate moveable weights as the r7 drivers do. The r7 XD irons (compare prices) use Pull-Face technology to fuse a titanium face to the steel body of the clubhead. The r7 XD set also has oversized heads and is designed to create a higher launch for extra distance and accuracy. The r7 XD irons are available now, with an MSRP of $1,032 per set with steel shafts and $1,200 with graphite shafts. More info

The r7 CGB Max irons are what TaylorMade calls its "pinnacle in terms of a game-improvement iron design." The "CGB" stands for "center of gravity back;" these irons also use a Pull-Face construction but the face and body are both stainless steel. The r7 CGB Max irons will be available in mid-November and carry an MSRP of $1,376 per set with steel shafts and $1,560 per set with graphite shafts. More info

The updated Miscela set (compare prices) for women replaces the 4, 5, and 6 irons of the original Miscela with 4, 5 and 6 hybrids. Also new is a larger titanium driver, replacing the stainless steel driver from the original Miscela. The Miscela set is available as a 7-piece (hybrids and irons only, MSRP $700) or 10-piece set (includes driver, 3-wood, and sand wedge, MSRP $1,200). More info

Odyssey Putters
Odyssey, a Callaway brand, has a new lineup of Dual Force 2 putters ready, each with Stronomic face inserts. And Odyssey is also bringing six new models of its popular White Steel putters to market. Dual Force 2 putters will be available in seven models, including center-shafted and Rossie, and carry an MSRP of $110 each. Four of the new White Steel models will have an MSRP of $150 each; 2-Ball Blade 2 and 2-Ball Mid models will have MSRPs of $215 and $295, respectively. More info
