This Week's Wie Update

Friday September 30, 2005
The latest article about Michelle Wie's plans to turn pro comes from Doug Ferguson, national golf writer with The Association Press. Ferguson reports that Wie will make the announcement she is turning pro on Wednesday. And here's a sentence from the article that encapsulates the unusual life of this unusual soon-to-be 16-year-old:
The time was set at 8 a.m. so Wie could get to class at Punahou School.
Ferguson reports that Wie will sign an endorsement deal with Nike worth from $4 million-$5 million per year, plus a similarly priced deal with Sony.

Wie's first tournament as a pro should be the Samsung World Championship, which starts on Oct. 13. She has also accepted a sponsor's exemption into the Japan PGA's Casio World Open in November, where it is believed she'll be receiving a hefty appearance fee.
