The book "The Greatest Game Ever Played" (compare prices) and the movie of the same name, opening Friday, tell the story of the 1913 U.S. Open. That's where an unknown former caddie named Francis Ouimet outdueled the legendary Harry Vardon (and fellow Englishman Ted Ray) in a playoff for the Open title.
