Where's "Natalie"?
Tuesday July 26, 2005
Something fishy is going on with the 6-episode reality television series focusing on Natalie Gulbis. We first wrote about it back in April: It was supposed to be called "Natalie," would air on The Golf Channel, and the first episode would debut on July 19.
July 19 came and went with no "Natalie." Prior to that date, the show was listed in the online program listings at thegolfchannel.com. Now, it's not. There is no mention of the series on The Golf Channel's website or on NatalieGulbis.com; nor is there any update on LPGA.com beyond the note they posted back in April.
I've sent email queries about the series to a contact at The Golf Channel and also to Gulbis' agent, both of whom are usually very helpful and quick to respond to my questions. Neither replied this time.
Nobody's talking. Very strange.
The LPGA has passed along a comment from The Golf Channel, however: "Due to unforeseen challenges incurred by the show’s production company, the reality series titled, Natalie, which was originally scheduled to debut on July 19 on The Golf Channel, has been rescheduled for a fall 2005 premiere."
Steve Pajak, a writer at the Sacramento Bee, is also on the case and had more success than me ... sort of. In a golf notebook published today in the Bee, Pajek wrote:
"The six-episode series was scheduled to complete shooting at the U.S. Open in June and debut last week. Then, poof. Nothing. 'There are production issues and it's on hold until at least November,' said Shay Noggle, a schedule planner in TGC's programming department. Asked if she could be a bit more specific explaining what 'production issues' might entail, Noggle contemplated awhile before answering, 'No. I've just been told to tell people that there are production issues between different parties and we have to wait for them to be resolved until we can air it.' "
